With the support of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, around 30 Enriched IT Class teachers and students visited the Zhuhai Yunzhou Intelligence Technology Ltd. (Yunzhou-Tech) and the Xiangshan Marine Scientific & Technological Port (Xiangshan Port), which was still under construction, in Xiangzhou District, Zhuhai City via the Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macao Bridge on 13 Apr 2019 under the arrangement of the Enriched IT Programme in Secondary Schools. Yunzhou-Tech is the first enterprise in China dedicated to the research and development and production of intelligent unmanned surface vessels (unmanned vessels), and was co-founded in 2010 by Mr ZHANG Yunfei and Mr CHENG Liang who are graduates of the Master of Science program in Mechanical Engineering at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. Xiangshan Port is the first industrial park project in China with main business on intelligent unmanned vessels of the marine equipment industry. Yunzhou-Tech is the lead investor of the park which is planned to officially open in 2019.

The event included visiting the manufacturing plant of Yunzhou-Tech to understand the production and testing processes of different types of intelligent unmanned vessels, visiting the port operation of the Xiangshan Port and participating in an exchange session with the persons-in-charge of Yunzhou-Tech to learn about the advanced technologies on the application of artificial intelligence in different fields of the maritime industry including unmanned vessel navigation, environmental measurement, military equipment, unmanned freight, etc. This event provided a valuable opportunity for students to appreciate unmanned vessels and the practical application of the artificial intelligence technology through site visit and participating in the exchange session in order to learn advanced technologies and understand the role of innovation and technology in the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
