“Enriched IT Programme” Partner School Students Won First Runner-up in the “Code2App Application Development Contest (Junior Secondary Division)” (with photos)
Enriched IT Class S2 students of The Y.W.C.A. Hioe Tjo Yoeng College won the first runner-up in the “Code2App Application Development Contest (Junior Secondary Division)”. Furthermore, awardees were invited to join the STEM courses and activities in the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) during summer holidays in the mid of July 2019. They could receive one college credit upon completion of the courses, and at the same time, they could experience university life and have earlier planning for their future.

Description of the winning entry :
“Double R Go” is a mobile application about household waste reduction. With the support of GPS and QR Code technologies, it can rate the environmental friendliness of users'daily life activities, ultimately achieving the goal of reducing household waste and building the habit of recycling. Students built the application with MIT App Inventor program after several months of development.
“Code2App Application Development Contest” was jointly organised by the Hong Kong Education City (HKEdCity) and HKUST-Lee Kum Kee Happy Family Learning Center, which aimed to address sustainability as an important issue. Students could make use of their coding and computational thinking skills, along with their creativity to build Android apps, to arouse the public awareness of reducing household waste.
