Enriched IT Class S3 students Kwan Hoi Leung, Hei Chun Ngo and Ho Yin Wong of Pui Ching Middle School got first runner-up in the “Cyber Security Challenge”.

The contest consisted of two phases. In the first phase, students were required to participate in the “Online Quiz Challenge" held from 1 September to 30 November 2017. For the second phase, only students achieving the top scores in the first phase were invited to participate in the “Cyber Security Challenge”.

For the first phase online quiz challenge, there were 50 four-choice multiple-choice questions to be answered. The questions were mainly about cyber security and crime prevention, with additional questions about computer arithmetic and computer commands. Students who answered the most questions in the shortest time would be promoted. For the second phase, it was a team challenge. Students form teams to take multiple cyber security challenges in a controlled computer environment which were assessed by the judging panel. Scores were assigned to different groups that could work out accurate solutions within a specified timeframe so as to determine the ranking.

“Cyber Security Challenge” was jointly organised by Cyber Security and Technology Crime Bureau (CSTCB), Junior Police Call (JPC) and the University of Hong Kong. It aimed at increasing cyber security awareness among local primary, secondary and tertiary students on the safe use of the Internet and social media, identifying computer and IT talents and promoting “Cyber Security Starts From Youth”.
