“Enriched IT Programme” Partner School students won Winning Alliance Award in the “FIRST Tech Challenge Hong Kong 2017-18” (with photos)

Enriched IT Class students and robotics team students of The Y.W.C.A. Hioe Tjo Yoeng College won the Winning Alliance Award in the “FIRST Tech Challenge Hong Kong 2017-18”.

Winning teams and students include

Rising Hioecians – Lee Man Hin, Cheng Nga Man Isa, Lung Tin Hang, Lai Ching Yan, Iu Lai Yu, Chan Cheuk Yin, Or Kai Hung, Chan Ming Yat Gary, Wong Ho Ming and Wong Tsz Lung

The challenge was divided into qualification matches and elimination matches. Two teams formed an alliance randomly and they were scheduled to compete against other alliances in a number of qualification matches to earn the highest score. After finishing qualification matches, the top four alliances, altogether eight teams, would advance to the elimination matches and each match was contested by two alliances. Students were required to build their own robots with different raw materials, robot kits and hardware, and learn how to build a program for manual operations and robot automation. By doing so, they could experience the engineering design process and their strategic planning and problem-solving skills could also be trained.

“FIRST Tech Challenge” is organised by the international youth organisation For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology (FIRST). It aims to encourage students to apply their knowledge of science, engineering and mathematics in the competition.
