Enriched IT Class students of Pui Ching Middle School won the Inspiration Award in the “FIRST Tech Challenge 2018/19 (Hong Kong Tournament)” in February 2019 and they have been recommended by the organiser to represent Hong Kong to participate in the “FIRST Tech Challenge World Championship” held in Houston, United States from 15 to 22 April 2019.

In this competition, students were responsible for the design, construction and programming of the robot, and competing against opponents in a randomly determined alliance. Each match consisted of two alliances, each formed by two schools. These two alliances competed against each other with their robots through the autonomous mode and driver-controlled mode. After nine rounds of matches, Pui Ching Middle School was ranked 22 out of 80 teams in the group match (FRANKLIN group) with six wins and three losses.

FIRST Tech Challenge is organised by the international youth organisation For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology (FIRST). It aims at inspiring young people's interest and participation in science and technology through competitions. This year is the 27th year since the first competition held in the United States in 1992. The tasks are varying each year and there are more than ten scoring tasks. At the end, the two schools in the alliance with the highest total score will be the winners.
