“Enriched IT Programme” Partner School students won Third Place Award in The Hong Kong Youth Science & Technology Innovation Competition 2017-2018 (with photo)

Three Enriched IT Class students from St. Paul's Convent School, Janice Cheung, June Fung and Ingrid Li of F.3S, won the Third Place Award in the Hong Kong Youth Science and Technology Innovation Competition, 2017-2018 with their invention “Sensory Seat System”, which is an Internet-of-Things (IoT) Smart City Intelligent Transportation System.

By embedding small sensors in the seats of buses, trams and MTR trains, live occupancy data can be measured. The app provides a real-time seat availability map, and the ability to book seats on approaching buses. Transport companies, users and the government can all benefit from the greater insight by the app using big data. Overall it will lead you to greater transport convenience, smoother journeys and more economical transport system.

Hong Kong Youth Science and Technology Innovation Competition 2017-2018 was organised by the Hong Kong New Generation Cultural Association Science Innovation Centre. It is the largest STEM competition in Hong Kong with around 4 000 applicants. The competition is for kindergarten, primary and secondary school students and teachers. It was held from September 2017 to April 2018 with six categories including Science Fiction Drawing, Invention, Research, Outstanding STEM Activity, Outstanding STEM Techer and Outstanding STEM School.
