“Enriched IT Programme in Secondary Schools”, has won two Merit awards in the Asia Pacific Information and Communication Technology Alliance Awards 2019 (APICTA 2019) (with photos)

Enriched IT Class students of Christian Alliance SW Chan Memorial College participated in the Asia Pacific Information and Communication Technology Alliance Awards 2019 (APICTA 2019) held in Ha Long, Vietnam, from 19 to 22 November 2019 and have won two Merit awards.


The winning entry “A.I.CAMe” is a low-cost portable smart device using artificial intelligence image recognition for on-site situation analysis to let the visually impaired have a better understanding of their surroundings and make it easier for them to get around on their own. The unit production cost of the device is about HK$350. The device can be installed directly on the crutches of the visually impaired and no additional hardware is required. It is expected that this practical and low-cost device can help solve the problem of travel inconvenience encountered by the visually impaired, and serve as an ideal tool for them to explore our city independently.

Awardees include : Lee Hok Yin, Chan Wing Yi and Woo Ka Ling.



Another winning entry is “Augmented Reality Game for Identifying Early-age School Kids with Dyslexia”. This device aims to address the problem where students with dyslexia in Hong Kong often miss the golden time for treatment due to delayed diagnosis. Tailor-made for K2 to Primary 2 students, this device will produce stereoscopic toys with 3D printing technology and conduct testing by means of AR mobile application and image recognition technology with minimum text-based user interface to facilitate early identification of potential dyslexia cases. In addition, the device will adopt AR technology to help enhance interactivity and add extra fun. Parents and schools can use the test results as reference to formulate plans as early as possible for the future development of their children and students with the aim of grasping the golden time for treatment and increasing the effectiveness of therapies. Awardees include : Fong Ka Ho, Cheung Choi Chun Ifan, and Wong Lok Him.



APICTA is an annual flagship event of the ICT industry in the Asia Pacific region. Founded in 2001 by Multimedia Development Corporation in Malaysia, it has become a renowned international award today. APICTA aims to recognise organisations and individuals in the Asia Pacific region who have made a significant contribution to the ICT industry; increase ICT awareness in the community; stimulate ICT innovation; provide opportunities for business matching between IT innovators and investors; and facilitate technology transfer and application.
