Enriched IT Class students of Pui Ching Middle School won the Inspiration Award and Finalist Alliance Award in the “FIRST Tech Challenge 2018/19 (Hong Kong Tournament)”.

Winning team and students include :
Project R — Chan Chun Kit, Fu Yeung Ho, Chung Wai Jit, Liu Zhiyi, Ng Myrtle, Lee Tsz Yin, Chung Yan Shun, Wong Chun Hei, Tsui Kai Long, Chen Hiu Yeuk and Fan Tsz Hei

The challenge consisted of qualification matches and elimination matches. Two teams composed an alliance randomly and they were scheduled to compete against other alliances in a number of qualification matches to earn the highest score. After completing qualification matches, the top four alliances, altogether eight teams, would advance to the elimination matches and only two alliances competed with each other during each match. Students were required to build their own robots with different raw materials, robot kits and hardware, and learn how to build a program for manual operations and robot automation. By doing so, they could experience the engineering design process and their strategic planning and problem-solving skills could also be trained.

FIRST Tech Challenge is designed for secondary students aged 14 to 18. Team of up to 15 students explore the possibilities of STEM through designing, building, programming, and operating robots to complete the given tasks. It aims to encourage students to apply their knowledge of science, engineering and mathematics in the competitions.
